The influence of WordPress on SEO When implimenting SEO its the same for everyone, in order to drive traffic and be sure its quality, you need to confirm your SEO strategy is on point. This is because many seo systems are alreadu set as default, and there are thousands of plugins that can mkae it even better. SEO can get very high-tech, can you can hear so many differant oppinionans from everyone. However, WordPress offers simple to understand SEO best practices, you can be sure to have a very SEO friendly website, and hereby increase organic traffic to your site through improved rankings and user experience. Although WordPress is SEO friendly, just having a WordPress site doesnt mean your website is optimised correctly. Doing the SEO Baics and Setting up WordPress Set up Google Analytics & Search console Once your website is up and live, the first thing you should do is install Google analycits and Search Console. These are two of the biggest SEO tools your website has at its disposble. These tools will enable you to get a quick overview of traffic to your site as soon as you log in. Alongside this, and more importantly, it will flag up any errors or issues such as 404s, the number of pages indexed, crawl errors and so on. If you still haven’t created Google Analytics and Search Console accounts, you should do this stright away or let me know and I can. Once you have your Google Analytics and Search Console accounts sorted, you will need to install a tracking code, some themes allow you to place this is easily some dont, there are also a few plugins that can help with this. You want to intall the tracking code into your head section of the website. If you cant find where to do this, you can download a plugin on WordPress such as MonsterInsights or the Google Analytics Dashboard for WordPress I would reccomend the later as its the easiest and the one we use for most of our clients. Make sure Google can crawl your website and index it The first thing you need to make sure is that your website is visible to search engines,. You can do this by going into your wordpress website settings and making sure you have removed the noindex setting, making it readable to Google, therefore allowing crawlers and indexing. Here’s how to do it: Login, then go to Settings > Reading, and ensure the Search Engine Visibility box is unticked. URL Structor – How to set up Friendly URL’s When building your website URL’s are sometimes forgotted by some people, – Having friendly URL’s are not only important from an SEO perspective but also from a click-through rate (CTR) perspective in terms of SERPs. The imporance is customers and users like to be able to see what they are clicking on. When writting your URL’s you should avoid symbols, underscores, dates and parameters. You should also make them concise, descriptive and include relevant keywords. <h3 You may want to include /blog/ or /news/ within post URLs to help differentiate post URLs from the main pages. WordPress allows you to change this within the Settings Menu. Simply go Settings > Permalinks, and select the Custom Structure option. Adding /blog/%postname%/ will then display your blogs as such: http://www.website.co.uk/blog/blog-post If you would rather have the posts on the root of the website (e.g http://www.website.co.uk/blog-post) you would just need to select the Post Name option. If your website has already been indexed by google then it gets a little more complicated, if you change the slug or URL that has already been indexed google will not be ablen to find this page and give you 404 page not found and this is bad for your SEO, if you are going to do this you need to set up 301 redirects to the new URL, If you need some more advise with this please contact me Choose between www. vs non-www versions. If you are creating a new site, then decide prior to going live whether you want the www. (http://www.yoursite.com) version or non-www. version (http://yoursite.com) of your site.
